On November 9-10, 2019, the Abbey Road Red Hackathon took place. This event is designed to bring professionals together from different backgrounds (software engineering, audio engineering, design, XR engineering, etc) to create immersive experiences and push boundaries.
Marcela’s team developed “Abbey in a box;” it consisted in allowing the user to virtually enter Abbey Road Studio Two’s Live Room, choose instruments to reproduce stems from a previously recorded track, then send the track to a specific location in the room using the spatial audio speaker setup.
The room was designed and built with Sketch Up, imported into Unity where the objects (instruments) were created, and used L-ISA to spatialize audio and Reaper to reproduce it. Marcela’s team won under the “Best game on” category and received Unity Pro licenses.
